Girona’s Holy Week (Setmana Santa) is a solemn yet spectacular tradition that fills the city with religious processions, candlelit parades, and historical reenactments. One of the most moving moments is the Processó del Sant Enterrament (Procession of the Holy Burial), which winds through the Barri Vell on Good Friday, featuring elaborate floats, hooded penitents, and a deeply immersive atmosphere. Sant Jordi's Day, or La Diada de Sant Jordi, is one of Catalonia's most cherished cultural celebrations. Often compared to Valentine's Day, this festival combines romance and literature. On April 23rd, the streets of Girona come alive with book and flower stalls, as it's customary for men to gift roses and women to give books in return. The city buzzes with cultural activities, book signings, and performances, making it a delightful day to experience Catalan traditions.


Girona, Temps de Flors (May 10-18, 2025)

One of Girona's most anticipated events, Girona, Temps de Flors, transforms the city into a breathtaking floral paradise every year. Held in May, this festival showcases elaborate flower installations throughout the Barri Vell (Old Quarter), including patios, monuments, and gardens. Visitors can wander through streets adorned with floral art, experiencing the city in full bloom. This tradition dates back to 1954 and has grown into an international attraction, drawing visitors from around the world.


Tempo (July - August 2025)

Set against the stunning backdrop of Girona’s Barri Vell, the Tempo Festival is a celebration of music, arts, and culture held during the summer months of July and August. This open-air festival transforms Plaça dels Jurats into an intimate performance space where live concerts, theatre, and film screenings create a vibrant cultural atmosphere. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025, the Cap Roig Festival is a highlight of the summer season on the Costa Brava. Held in the stunning botanical gardens of Cap Roig, this music festival features a lineup of international and local artists across various genres. The 2025 edition promises an exceptional program, combining high-quality performances with the festival's ongoing commitment to social initiatives.


Fires de Sant Narcís (October 24 – November 2, 2025)

Girona’s biggest annual festival, the Fires de Sant Narcís, honors the city’s patron saint, Sant Narcís, with nearly two weeks of concerts, parades, fireworks, and traditional Catalan celebrations. One of the highlights is the Correfoc (fire run), where costumed devils dance through the streets, lighting up the night with fireworks and drumming. The festival also includes street fairs, amusement rides, castellers (human towers), and the famous gegants and capgrossos (giant figures) parading through the city. Taking place in late October and early November, this is the best time to experience Girona’s lively local spirit.


Christmas Festivities and Kings Day (December 2025 - January 6, 2026)

The holiday season in Girona is a magical time, marked by festive decorations, traditional markets, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The celebrations culminate with Kings Day on January 6th, commemorating the arrival of the Three Wise Men. The eve before, January 5th, features a grand parade through the city streets, where the Three Kings distribute sweets and gifts to children, embodying the spirit of joy and generosity.
